Byte

In computing, a byte is a unit used to measure data storage, generally considered to hold eight bits. 

The byte unit can be prefixed as so.
1000 bytes = 1 kB (kilobyte, 10³ byte)
1000 kB = 1 MB (megayte, 10⁶ byte)
1000 MB = 1 GB (gigabyte, 10⁹ byte)
1000 GB = 1 TB (terabyte, 10¹²byte)
